Lesson Plan For Extinction and Endangered Species

 

Assignment:


Part 1: Pick and research an animal that is designated as “endangered” by the US Fish and Wild Life Service or by the Endangered Species Act. As you research your species be sure to find out:

* some basic information about this species including its physical description, size, food, habitat and behaviors
* the species past and current geographical location
* the major threats to this species survival
* what kinds of protections are currently implemented to help this species

Part 2: Choose a way to share the information you learned during your research on the endangered species. Target your project at those who live in this animal’s area and who could get involved in helping to protect the animal from going extinct. Some examples of projects you might complete for this assignment are: brochures, posters, short videos/ public service announcements, or dioramas. Be creative! The information presented in your projects should include the research topics listed above as well as suggestions for how individuals can get involved. Your project will be presented to the class.
