Chub Creek Downstream

The following graph represents the relative abundances of five different species of mussel located at the downstream Chub Creek site.

P. grandis was by far the most abundant mussel species, comprising 44% of all mussels located at the downstream Chub Creek site. An interesting find at this site was the population of L. compressa, which displayed an orange foot, a surprise to Prof. Wagenbach. Substrate in this section of the stream was mostly sand w/ some very silty areas. Several large populations were found near obstructions in the stream current, such as a beaver dam, and one population near a felled tree trunk. The substrate at these areas was shifty sand, similar to the rest of the stream; the location of the populations near these obstructions then could indicate a relationship between stream flow and where populations flourish.
