The following graph is site-by-site species richness comparison between our survey results in 1998 and Davis' in 1987. Species richness changed little for most of the surveyed streams over the past ten years; however, reductions in species richness did occur at both of the Straight River sites and at the Wolf Creek site.
Throughout the summer we made notes at each study site of the substrate that we found the mussels inhabiting, be it sand, gravel, etc. The follwing pie chart represents all of the different ranges of substratum we encountered and the relative numbers of live mussels that were found in each.
The following graph represents the relative species abundance of each species at every survey site in the summer of 1998. Lasmigona complanata, Pyganodon grandis, Potamilus alatus, and Lampsilis siliquoidea were the most abundant mussels in the streams we surveyed in the Cannon River Watershed.
