After washing up our dishes and stowing the gear...

Mary got us started on a beach analysis problem.
It turned into a beautiful day.

We split into teams and measured the beach profile.
Here Beth stretches out the measuring tape.

Later we had time to check out the waterfalls and spectacular lava flows that Gooseberry
is famous for. Kate, Fuzzy and Kelsey had a huge discussion about ... something?

Nick and Jenna check out the pahoehoe surface on the Precambrian lava.
It's hard to believe it's over a billion years old, it looks so fresh.

Maggie sitting on a surface full of frozen gas bubbles in the lava.

Glenn '80 (on the left) and Myron, our bus driver, also enjoyed Gooseberry Falls.
Glenn visited the trip for a couple of days, and Myron is a geologist at heart.
Next stop was at Shovel Point. Ross and Don examine the rhyolite
in preparation for the discussion.

Cam took us through this one. That's Palisade Head behind him.

Next day we went to the Soudan Mine State Park. Sarina and Kendra
take a look at the BIF (banded iron formation).
