Instructions for Floating Comprehensive Exam

You must prepare responses of 5-6 pages in length, double-spaced, 12 cpi font, one-inch margins, paginated on two theoretical questions based on our study of issues in sessions 2-4 and sessions 6-8. Each student must answer one question from the session 2-4 cohort and one question from the session 6-8 cohort. The comprehensive exam will “float” until we conclude our study of particular areas.

You must select only one question per set (six sets of two questions will be available to you, three per session cohort). The difficulty level will increase with each set. Students will have two weeks after the session outline containing the question set is distributed in class to complete the assignment.

You may defer up to the last question set for each session cohort, but not beyond. Otherwise, you are free to self-schedule the completion of the comprehensive exam requirement for the course.

I strongly recommend that you form study groups to address questions during the allotted time. You might also discuss the questions with me during office hours. All papers are due at 5 p.m. in my office on the scheduled due date.

Each answer will receive a score between 0-50, with the sum of the two scores composing the grade for the exam.
