Democratization in Comparative Perspective

Like many comparativists and political economists, I maintain an interest in the study of new democracies in developed and developing countries. For a draft of a recent review I prepared on this subject, click here. The final draft was published in the Journal of Interamerican Studies and World Affairs (Summer 1998).

For a study on how political decentralization affects democracy, see my chapter in Democratic Brazil: Actors, Institutions, and Processes, eds. Peter R. Kingstone and Timothy J. Power. Pittsburgh: University of Pittsburgh Press, 2000.
