Many members of the faculty contribute to the success of American Studies at Carleton. Not every one teaches every year in the program; these are the ones who are teaching courses that are central offerings of the program in 2002-2003.

Richard Keiser, Associate Professor of Political Science, and the Associate Director of American Studies has been at Carleton since 1991. He is a scholar of the politics of American cities. |

Michael Kowalewski, Professor of English, is the Director of American Studies. He joined the Carleton faculty in 1991 after teaching for five years at Princeton University. He has a special interest in regionalism and "place" in American history and culture. He is the director of our only American Studies off-campus program, "Visions of California," which was most recently offered in the winter of 2001. |

Robert Tisdale, Class of 1944 Professor of English and the Liberal Arts, has taught literature and American Studies at Carleton since 1966. A specialist in American literature and poetry, he also has served as Director of the program. |
